Originally from England, David moved to New York City in 1997 to earn a BFA in Cartooning at the School of Visual Arts. Among his teachers were golden-age comic book artists Carmine Infantino and Joe Orlando, but it was the “High Focus Drawing” program run by acclaimed poster artist and editorial illustrator James McMullen that became his central influence while at SVA.
David went on to pursue a career in cg animation resulting in working for 10 years as a character animator at BlueSky Studios animating on films in the ICE AGE and RIO franchises. David retired from feature film animation to pursue his first passion of drawing and painting and has since returned to SVA to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
David’s practice includes attending weekly life drawing sessions at The Salmagundi Club. Drawings made there have been exhibited in the club’s group shows and have been recognized several times with awards including the “Best in Show” prize in 2019.
