Originally from England, David moved to New York City in 1997 to earn a BFA in Cartooning at the School of Visual Arts. His instructors included golden-age comic book artists Carmine Infantino and Joe Orlando, but it was acclaimed illustrator James McMullen's “High-Focus Drawing” program that became his central influence while at SVA.
David went on to pursue an interest in CG animation which led to a 10-year career as a character animator at BlueSky Studios (credits include films in the ICE AGE and RIO franchises, Horton Hears a Who! and Peanuts). In 2016 he retired from feature film animation to focus on his first passion of drawing and painting. (David has also since returned to SVA to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level).
David’s practice includes attending life-drawing sessions at The Salmagundi Club at which his work has been exhibited in group shows and been recognized with awards including the “Best in Show” prize in 2019.
