Originally from England, David moved to New York City in 1997 to earn a BFA in Cartooning at the School of Visual Arts. His teachers included golden-age comic book artists Carmine Infantino and Joe Orlando, but it was acclaimed editorial illustrator James McMullen's “High-Focus Drawing” program that became his central influence while at SVA.
David went on to pursue an interest in CG animation which resulted in working as a character animator at BlueSky Studios on films in the ICE AGE and RIO franchises among others. After ten years he retired from feature film animation to focus on his first passion of drawing and painting, He has also since returned to SVA to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
David’s practice includes attending life-drawing sessions at The Salmagundi Club. Drawings made there have been exhibited in the club’s group shows and have been recognized several times with awards including the “Best in Show” prize in 2019.
